BASMATI RICE

Rice is one of the ultimate food crops among most of the world’s population especially the Asian countries. The word ‘Basmati’ is a Sanskrit word, meaning ‘perfumed one’ or ‘fragrant’. Basmati Rice is called Basmati because of its distinct unique fragrance. The aroma of the rice is caused due to the compound 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline. It is characterized by its unique flavor, aroma and its slender shape. It is also sometimes called as ‘Popcorn Rice’. It is a long grained variety of rice that is quite popular among the Indian population. It is generally found to be grown in the Himalayan foothills.

Basmati Rice is used to make Biryani and is also served with different Indian curries and meats. Indian Rice is preferred for its light and fluffy nature with distinctive aroma. When cooked, it remains separated and non-sticky. The authentic basmati rice is produced in India. Rice is mainly chosen for Mediterranean diet and cuisine. Rice contains fiber and has a low Glycemic index. It is preferred for patients with diabetes. Its aroma is what makes it distinctive.
